Can I just say one thing real quick?
My husband is insanely talented.
Holy crap! Patrycia and Marcin’s wedding pictures are ridiculous, insane, jaw dropping even –
Unfortunately, I was not shooting this wedding, and I have to say that I am completely jealous that I was not there to watch these portraits go down. Nothing is more inspiring than watching Eric execute his brilliant ideas on the spot at a wedding. I have never seen someone with such an infinite supply of fresh, original, gorgeous ideas combined with technical ability to nail it with a camera and some light. Unbelievable. Love that guy.
Also love that Nicole didn’t just settle for the pond reflection in this shot, but also went with the crazy angle that we tease her about…best ever.
I am so excited about Patrycia and Marcin’s wedding pictures, they have inspired a little 2011 unsolicited photography advice for future wedding couples that want to ensure their images are as insanely beautiful:
– Give adequate picture time on your wedding day (more time = more diverse images + money not wasted on your photographer)
– If you are even considering video please ask for a referral (obtrusive videographer = stressed photographers + a videographer or two in all of your pictures)
– Let go and trust us completely (micromanaged photographers = diminished creativity + money wasted on your photographer)
I digress, let’s get back to our awesome bride and groom.
Getting ready was pure eye candy everywhere at the Hotel Zero Degrees in Stamford, colors were popping, interesting angles and design, literally coulda hung out there all day. Then, Patrycia and Marcin rocked the city streets of Stamford, CT which always provides for dynamic, urban images and then wait until you see the insanely yummy pink in full force at The Water’s Edge in Darien, CT – I have never seen this venue look so rad. Shout out to the one and only Nicole Taylor for second shooting for us.
Wow – you just rocked photographing this wedding! I bet it helped to have a super handsome couple to photograph… who also had a great sense of wedding style! I hope you don’t mind, but I published this on my blog for our Wedding Wednesday feature for the week. Please check it out if you have a minute!
Again, fantastic job on this wedding – loved all of the photos!!!

I love the note in the beginning and I love the shot too!! You guys seriously sickly rocked this. I went through these pics four times!! I love the dress shot and the one with her dress half done up and the ring photo as usual is totally creative. You guys never fail to impress.
Patrycia
Amazing! Beautiful! So thankful for all the gorgeous shots!! YOU ARE THE BESTTTTT !

Obviously, a wedding day is an absolute whirlwind, but with a few key pieces in place we can guarantee that any wedding day will be a great one. Working with a great couple that is all about having fun with their friends and family, and do not take things too seriously is also a huge bonus, and we are so fortunate that we were able to be a part of Mallory and Nick’s amazing wedding at the Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville, CT. The Aqua Turf is one of those venues that we have not photographed too many weddings at, so obviously we were siked to shoot there – we just love the challenge of bringing a fresh perspective to a popular wedding venue…so obviously, windmill shots were out of the question. Thanks to Mallory and Nick for being so fun to work with and of course a shout out to Joanne Vandal for 2nd shooting like a rockstar on your 40th birthday.
Following the intimate ceremony, it was time to get their pictures done in record time. Lucky for me, Mallory, Nick, and the entire bridal party was super cooperative and killed the portraits.
And of course there is nothing better than bouquet toss action.
It was also so great to see Alia and Sal at the wedding, one of our RAD couples from last year.
Thanks again guys and congratulations!
And JoJo, well…you are just the best. nuff said.
Kristen and Ben are rockstars! They had an epic wedding starting with a very sweet first look and portrait time at PepsiCo in Purchase, NY, then off to an outdoor golf course ceremony and MORE picture time at their venue, The Doral Arrowwood Hotel in Rye Brook, NY.
Here are a few of the many favorites from the day.
Details.
Ceremony and Reception location: The Doral Arrowwood Hotel in Rye Brook, NY
Bridal hair and makeup by Dana Bartone of Dana Bartone & Company in Cheshire, CT
Florals by Westchester Floral Decorators
Wedding gown designed by Rivini from The Plumed Serpent in Westport, CT and shoes by Kate Spade
Shout out to Nicole Taylor for second shooting with us.
Love these getting ready shots…Dana and Katie are working their magic!
First look and portrait time at PepsiCo in Purchase, NY.
Luckily, the weather held off for an outdoor wedding ceremony and some golf course shots at The Doral Arrowwood Hotel in Rye Brook, NY.
Fabulous work as always! Love the shots of the two of them, especially that very sweet first look. (Love her shoes, too!)
amy
I’m teary eyed looking at the shots from the first look! Great capture of that moment! I love the shots before hand too. Great lighting and the colors just jump out! It looks like everyone’s just having a great time. What a happy couple! Congratulations!
Eric and I had an absolute blast shooting Jenna & Tom’s wedding in Massachusetts. Jenna is a dancer, so get ready for some amazing dancing shots – and coverage of an insanely fun reception! We traveled to North to begin Jenna and Tom’s wedding day. While Eric covered the girls getting ready at Jenna’s parents house in Ludlow, MA, I snuck back across the CT border to cover the guys getting ready at Tom’s parents home in Enfield, CT.
One sign that we are doing our job well: The wedding planner at The Hampden Country Club pulled me aside and told me that she “has never seen a photographer take bride and groom portraits in the places that we took Jenna and Tom for pictures” – perfect!!
We HAD to take advantage of the green at the country club!!
Thanks guys and enjoy!

great pictures!

Again, I’m blown away when I see the photos you take. The first shot on the green is amazing and the lights during the reception are really fantastic. You guys really capture so much in such a unique way. I love it! I love the bridesmaid dresses and the cake too. Congrats Jenna and Tom! -Amy
We have been extremely fortunate this year to shoot a couple amazing Eolia Mansion weddings at Harkness State Park in Waterford, CT. From our perspective, this venue offers so much character and diversity, we could shoot here all year and not take the same picture twice. Rachel and Elias were a blast to work with on their wedding day, after their first look we had time to explore the Eolia Mansion property at Harkness State Park for portraits.
And their RAD bridal party was completely on board with getting on the rocks for one of our favorite bridal party shots so far this year! Thanks a million to Joanne Vandal for an awesome job second shooting this wedding with us.
A handful of EPIC favs from Rachel & Elias’ amazing wedding day.
I absolutely love Rachel’s dress designed by Manuel Mota for Pronovias.
Now, starting from the top, getting ready shots with the guys and girls.
Some great candid moments captured by Joanne of the guys getting dressed.
The first look with Rachel and Elias, followed by some bridal portraits in the gardens at Harkness State Park.
Time to get married!! Love the next two awesome moments that Joanne grabbed before the ceremony began.
This shot Joanne took made me practically spit my drink out when I came across it. The back story is that after the ceremony Eric noticed Joanne looking a little lost trying to find him, so Eric decided to play Where’s Waldo, and blend into the crowd. This is how JoJo found him.
A few reception details.
And more insane bridal portraits shot at Harkness State Park.
Rachel & Elias rocked the tent for their reception at Eolia Mansion in Waterford, CT.
Thank you guys so much for letting us capture your day, you guys rocked and we hope you love your pictures!

Wow this wedding totally rocks! Possibly my favorite one you guys have done this year – it is so classy and elegant and the two of you did it perfect justice.
Caitlyn
Love love love! Thanks so much! They came out exactly how I imagined!
The biggest struggle I had with these wedding images was not making them ALL in color, I love me some black and white action, but the color is oozing awesome in these pictures, agreed? And if the pictures below from Kate & Andrew’s wedding do not make you miss summer already, then I am convinced nothing will. Kate and Andrew had an absolutely stunning tent wedding at The Popponesset Inn in Cape Cod, Massachussetts, check it out.
The sky was EPIC the entire wedding day, constantly changing and made for some pretty sweet shots!
A few, hands down favorites from the day to tantalize.
Some of the details.
Kate’s Dress designed by Paloma Blanca
Shoes by Enzo Angiolini
Florals by the East Sandwich Flower and Gift Shop
Wedding venue was the Popponesset Inn in Mashpee, MA
A huge thanks to Nicole Taylor for second shooting, and doing a killer job (as always). If you ever are looking for Nicole, just look for the little ones…
It is rare to see this guy on the other side of the camera, so I had to post it, plus Nicole KILLED this shot. Grand Master Flash in the flesh, oh, and…don’t ask what he’s holding on the light stand, it’s an “original” :)
Enjoy guys, we loved sharing your wedding day with you!
Wow! I have 3 favorites and 2 out of the 3 are because I am a sucker for diamonds (ring shot) and shoes (shoe shot, I’m sure Amber tried to run off with the bride’s shoes!) But hands down favorite is that amazing shot second in the group between the two houses. If that isn’t one in a million, I don’t know what is! Congrats to Kate and Andrew!
Janet
I love the Cinderella shoes by the way!!!
Janet
I heard someone say, “if you have one thing hanging from your belt…..” Looks like it is working for you though, so if you keep getting shots like these, don’t change a thing!
i was going to comment on the rad images but your light rig has me shaking my head. i would drop/tip/crash/smash/stab that thing all over the place. there would be a permanent sand gobo if i was using it like you. it looks badass. well done.
We’re just going to go ahead with some favorites from the day, the Saltwater Farm has quickly become a favorite place to shoot. We could play in these stainless steel wine casks all day long! A huge thanks to Joanne Vandal (aka Jo Jo) for assisting at this wedding with Eric and myself, you are the best!
A few of the stunning details from Ali & Scott’s wedding day, Ali did such an awesome job coordinating the stationary and carrying her color scheme throughout…
Getting Ready: Mystic Marriott
Ceremony & Reception Venue: The Saltwater Farm Vineyard
Ali’s Hair & Makeup: Dana Bartone & Company
Bridal Gown designed by Modern Trousseau from Wedding Atelier
Floral design: Bakes & Baldwin Floral Company

The tented ceremony at the Saltwater Farm Vineyard.
I recognize those two!! Great shots you guys! Amazing details. And way to make that ceremony tent look beautiful, that was pretty hard. You guys are really creative, I love it. I’m sure they’ll love these. Great job!
I know what you’re thinking….wait a minute…the wedding was at the Palace Theater AND the Waterview? Well, sort of. Here’s the thing: Andrea & Jeff booked the Waterview in Monroe, CT for their ceremony and reception for their 300 guests. They had also decided to do a first look to maximize their picture-time (which we love, of course) and picked the perfect downtown Waterbury location for it. The catch is that there was NO way we were going to be taking photos there if it rained. And…of course….it rained. Amber made some phone calls on the morning of Andrea & Jeff’s wedding and TOTALLY came through with an amazing alternative: the Palace Theater in downtown Waterbury. A HUGE thanks to the staff at the Palace Theater for accommodating Andrea, Jeff, their families, and their bridal party. We can’t thank them enough!!! PS – if you missed photos of our wedding last year in the current issue of Connecticut Bride, definitely check it out! *wink*wink*
Ok, so that’s the background history on the day….now let’s get to some yummy photos….what do you say? A huge thanks to Alicia Candelora for totally KILLING it with Amber and myself!! You rock!!
We’re just going to go ahead and drop the awesome bomb right from the start….sound good? Andrea & Jeff are the type of wedding couple any photographer would dream of….laid back, funny, and ridiculously in love.
So yeah…the Palace Theater is a pretty cool back-up plan, huh? Just check out the eye candy, come on!!!??
The only thing even remotely close to as cool as Andrea & Jeff is their bad-a** bridal party!
Come on….how gorgeous is Andrea?!
A total WIN from my homegirl Alicia!
Yeah Jeff!
Their first look was adorable! A little tag-team action with Alicia & myself
A little night-time Waterview action when the rain died down
Time to get everyone drooling over some details!
Andrea’s Dress: Maggie Sottero
Andrea’s Shoes: Manolo Blahnik
Floral Design: the one and only Sofie Kirk from Hansen’s Flowers
Catering: the Waterview
Photo Location: Palace Theater
Make-up & Styling: Stacey Palancia of Blush Couture
Sofie Kirk from Hansen’s Flowers and Raw Photo go waaaay back – she’s the best of the best!
Alicia got some great shots of the guys getting ready
Shots of the Dads seeing their daughters for the first time in their dress always kill me!
Quick portrait of Andrea at her parent’s house before heading to the first look at the Palace Theater!
There was not a dry eye in the house during the ceremony at the Waterview
Alicia – killing it during the ceremony!
the party was out.of.control.period.
I’m not sure but I think this was during the song “Baby” by Justin Bieber. Jeff REALLY likes that song :)
The shot of the bridal party sitting in the theater is awesome!
Janet
Wonderful shots in the theater – you would never know that was the last minute back up plan.
tracie
We are so lucky to have such a beautiful, wonderful ‘daughter’. Our son and ‘daughter’ deserve all the happiness in the world.
Dom and Marion, thank you for sharing her with us! You have two wonderful children-we hope Jeffrey will be your third and he willmake you proud! We are bothe very blessed.
Andrea-we love you very much!
Love,
Tracie and Jeff
Erica & Suraj have been such a pleasure to work with at every step of the way since the first day we met them. Everyone still emails us and comments on how gorgeous their daughter is from their rustic style engagement photos we shot in New Milford, CT. Their wedding at the Glen Island Harbor Club was an absolute blast and huge props goes to Nicole Taylor for 2nd shooting with me.
I’m sure there are LOTS of brides out there that can relate with me on this one….you know that nauseating feeling you get when you imagine all the things that can go wrong on your wedding day? Well….poor Erica & Suraj pretty much had most of those freak “things” actually happen on their day. I mean, half of the bridesmaids were in an accident on the way to the Glen Island Harbor Club!! (don’t worry, everyone was ok and totally not their fault) Good thing Nicole and I were driving by right after it happened and Nicole was able to fit everyone in her car! What amazed me about the whole day was how calm, cool, and collected both Erica and Suraj remained regardless of all the little bumps and bruises that occurred….they never lost sight of what was most important and it was such a pleasure to be a part of.
We love to start with some of our favorite portraits from the day!
Soooo happy that Erica & Suraj trusted me and agreed to hop up on the rock wall surrounding the Glen Island Harbor Club – totally worth it!!
How gorgeous did Erica look??!!
Suraj didn’t look half-bad himself!!
Erica & Suraj’s Wedding Details
Wedding Ceremony & Reception Venue: The Glen Island Harbor Club in Westchester, NY
Getting Ready Location: The Ritz Carlton Westchester in Westchester, NY
Erica’s dress was designed by Monique Lhuillier from Marcella’s La Boutique in Seattle, WA
Floral Design by Arcadia Floral in Mamaroneck, NY
Cinematography by Anthony Quintano from Quintano Media
Band: ETA Music
Love me some First Look action!!
It was sunny to say the least :) And probably the hottest day of the year – Erica and Suraj did such an amazing job hanging in there during portraits!
The ceremony was on-location at the Glen Island Harbor Club. The room overlooking Glen Island is an awesome location for a small ceremony.
Thanks again for everything guys and wish you all the best in your new life together!

I am being perfectly honest with you both. you are both GORGEOUS!!!!

Besides Erica and Suraj being such a beautiful couple, they are both photogenic too! Hats off to the awesome photographer. Perfection!!! You couldn’t ask for more dramatic photos. Absolutely Beautiful!!!
Janet
Stunning – I can’t even pick out a favorite, I love them all. Wow, she was a really beautiful bride…
Shooting a photographers wedding rocks. why? well, because they REALLY value their wedding pictures and are all about doing whatever it takes to get the shot – our dream come true, duh! Our photog bride is Suzanna of Suzanna March Photography, and Suzanna + her husband Joe completely killed it on their wedding day – enough said! Another huge shout-out to Nicole Taylor for shooting with us!
A few major faves:
Shooting in Grand Central Station in NYC is never a simple or easy task. There are people EVERYWHERE and security is less than accommodating to say the least (and yes, Suzanna had all the necessary paperwork & permissions). This day proved to be especially challenging because service on the New Haven line of Metro North Railroad was suspended for technical difficulties. What does that mean? Oh, just about 3 times more people than there usually is on a Saturday afternoon. We could have embraced the chaos and commotion like most people do for shots in Grand Central….but instead we busted out the off-camera flash….and got rid of all those sweaty, frustrated NYC travelers.
Always another go-to move to get rid of all the bystanders when shooting in Manhattan: Shoot from below!!
We had such a blast shooting the details and the bridal party getting ready at the Yale Club in NYC – total eye candy everywhere!
Always a Nicole Taylor fave – way to rock it girl!
Definitely one of Eric’s most favorite bridal portraits to date! Simple, elegant, and timeless – can we just take photos of Suzanna everyday?
Don’t think you can get a more breathtaking ceremony shot – the Blessed Sacrament Church on the upper West Side of NYC was ridiculous!!
Naturally, we had to hit up Central Park for bridal party portraits…Joe is quite the gentleman :)
Gotta get us some street shot action on the way back to the Yale Club from Grand Central Station.
Suzanna had these amazing parasols for her bridal party – we couldn’t get enough of them! I think Eric actually wanted to take one home…
So….ummm….yeah….the Yale Club is pretty nice, huh?! :)
Oh, sorry….I’m not in your shot Mr. Videographer, am I? Ha ha…we had a blast shooting with Candon productions that night.
HUGE warning sign that we can’t get enough of our lovely couple…..bridal portraits after the reception in the Yale Club Library. Did you know there are people up around midnight studying their butts off in the middle of NYC? We didn’t know that either until a bunch of them got really uncomfortable of all the cameras and flashes and b-lined out of the library!

This wedding was the best! They make a beautiful couple. Love all the pictures. Would love to see more
pictures.
GORGEOUS!!! love the “no parking” one and the naughty one in the library! hehhee :) so funny that you guys scared away the nerds from their late night studying :)
We LOVE us some cultural flair, and that is just what Nichole and Andrew brought to their wedding at the Guilford Yacht Club in Guilford, CT. You see Andrew is from Edinburgh, Scotland, and these two had 35 guests in from Scotland…so naturally, all of the men were decked out in full Scottish dress. Something about kilts raises the bar at any party. Honestly, I felt a little left out and contemplated dropping my pants as soon as I realized I was quite possibly the only guy wearing pants at the Guilford Yacht Club that night.
A huge thanks to the one and only Jennifer Dougan for making the trek up to the Guilford Yacht Club and 2nd shooting with me! Alright, let’s get to it!
Nichole & Andrew wanted to have most of their photos taken at Jacobs Beach in Guilford which is right down Seaside Avenue on the way to the Guilford Yacht Club. Having shot weddings at GYC twice last year I couldn’t believe I hadn’t heard of this cool little beach before!
Reason #241 our couples are the coolest on the face of the planet: beach + knee socks = innovation
The details.
Wedding Reception Venue: The Guilford Yacht Club in Guilford, CT
Caterer: Jordan Caterers of Cheshire, CT
Ceremony Location: North Madison Congregational Church
Bridal Hair & Makeup: Vivid Salon in Madison, CT
Bridal Gown & Shoes: Nichole’s dress from Bella Sera Bridal was designed by Paloma Blanca
Floral Design: Guilford Greenery
Band: iPod
Such a great moment when Nichole’s dad saw her for the first time!
Nichole had just one photo request for the entire day. And this is it…. It was such an intense moment and we could all sense the anticipation each of them had right before the ceremony was about to start.
Nichole and Andrew incorporated a Scottish “binding of the hands” at their wedding ceremony where the minister binds the hands with a scrap of fabric of the groom’s tartan pattern and recites a prayer.
After some portraits at Jacobs Beach it was back to the Guilford Yacht Club for some intense partying….Scottish style.
We loved working with you guys and your families were a blast, enjoy your images!

We can’t WAIT to see the rest…this is such a tease. Eric, Andrew’s sister is wondering if you’d be willing to shoot her wedding in Scotland someday!?!

Wow. I’ve been looking forward to these photos. Congrats again Andrew & Nichole! Amazingly stunning photos. Fantastic job once again, Eric.
Eileen & Hiram’s wedding at the The Branford House in Groton, CT will definitely go down as one of the MOST fun weddings of all time. Amber and Nicole could not have done a more exceptional job at capturing the day and to say I’m proud of the Raw team would be an understatement. Eileen & Hiram have been dating since high-school and to this day still have the same infatuation for each other they had when they first started dating. Alright, enough with the talking – let’s bring on the images!
Loooove this portrait Nicole got of Hiram on the left!
I’m obsessed with this series Amber got of the bridal party and Eileen & her dad making their way down toward the ceremony.

Hi,
I’ve been enjoying the photos etc. I’m from Groton originally, but have been gone for years. Sometimes I look it up. Today I came across this page, with the great pictures of your wedding.
I don’t know if this would be interesting to you but back in the sixties my best friend’s dad was exec. officer at Avery Point, then a Coast Guard training center.
My friend (Richie Z.) first lived in the stone house (supposedly the original gatekeeper’s home), and then moved to “the mansion”, as it was called.
The C.O. of the base and his family lived in the east half- on the second and third stories- and the X.O.- Richie’s dad- and his family lived in the west half. The ground floor was apparently all taken up by offices.
It’s such a magnificent building.
As the exec’s kid, Richie and his brother were like mascots. All the enlisted men knew them, and gave them the run of the base and its various fun facilities- the gym and pool, the “gedunk” for burgers, the 10-cent movies, etc.
He used to hit golf balls on that huge front lawn without losing them all in the water.
We had many adventures all around the area. The mansion- er, Branford House- has been a notable landmark there for well over a century.
The whole estate must have been almost a paradise of beauty, even now of course it is still lovely, but some things are changed or gone.
Anyway, thanks for the photos and story. Avery Point is one of the special places.
These are the memories evoked by just a few moments of seeing your photos.
See, you never know even a stranger might appreciate it!
Gib S.
You guys look incredible!!!! It was a pleasure meeting and dancing with you guys (even if we only got one dance lesson in before the big day!) Wishing you a lifetime of happiness and love! GREAT SHOTS as always! 5 weeks till our turn :)
New venue for us, good times. we love something new and different…duh! Michelle and Mark are so cute, so adorable, we clearly loved our portrait time with them! Rock it out.
Our newest and favoritest and overall most radtastical DJ on the planet: Ronnie from Musically Yours. Pick him up and put him in your pocket. His DJ skillz were killer!
A great way to get on the fast track to Raw Photo Design’s “MVP List” is to allow a lot of time for portraits during your wedding day. Betty & Joe are quite possibly at the TOP of that list thanks to all the time they allotted for portraits during their awesome wedding at the Riverhouse at Goodspeed Station. Not only did we have all the time in the world but they planned their day around getting a whole bunch of photos taken at Gillette Castle in East Haddam, CT which honestly was our first time ever shooting there. Needless to say we fell in love with all the super-cool locations the park had to offer.
A really funny and completely random story about Betty and Joe’s wedding is after the ceremony we plugged the address to the Gillette Castle State Park into our GPS. As we cruise down a windy road toward the state park we heard the GPS instruct us… “In 1 mile, board ferry.” We obviously had the “Weddings Rock” playlist blasting on the iPod so we barely heard what it said but I definitely turned the music down and said to Amber, “Did the GPS just say to get on a ferry?” She wasn’t sure if she heard it correctly either and just then we rolled up to what looked like a draw bridge to get over the Connecticut River. BUT, low and behold…it was a ferry…and the people that looked like they worked on it were all waving for us to drive onto the boat. So….we drove onto the boat. Needless to say, it was one of the most unexpected things to happen on the way to shoot some bridal portraits and definitely took us by surprise. Five minutes later we were on the other side of the river and about 5 minutes away from the castle. It was absolutely hilarious and totally felt like we were in the middle of a Seinfeld episode!
Ok, enough talk…let’s see the images!
How cool is Gillette Castle?!
Betty was such a natural in front of the camera, we had such a blast working with her on her wedding day.
Joe was not too shabby himself!
Some yummy details to get you drooling!
I have to give Amber total props for not only coming up with this sick composition but for totally KILLING the lighting! It’s the little things in life….like off-camera flash on a shoe shot that makes a guy proud :)
All of these shots of Betty with her Dad are too much!
All of Betty & Joe’s details at the Riverhouse looked awesome!
So, there’s being excited about catching the bouquet and then there’s being EXCITED about catching the bouquet!
Enjoy guys, and thanks for being so amazingly awesome!!
great photos! and the ferry thing happened to us too..except it was late at night after the ferry had stopped running! so we had to drive around and over a bridge but what a surprise especially when there was no ferry to get on!
Keep up the great work guys!
and congrat’s to the married couple!!!
Lisa Kirrane
These pics are incredible ! Can’t wait to see you guys… btw- do they do family and baby pics??
Lisa
Love all these pictures!
Kate
That’s black and white done right…the bride did a great job with the details. I love the getting ready shots of the bride getting her make-up done. Awesome, as always.
These are gorgeous – and wow, what a beautiful bride! Love the castle! I’ve never been there either but that’s hilarious about the ferry! Good to know! ;)
This was a biggie, we cannot even try to pretend that we were not looking forward to this wedding for months.
We immediately hit it off with Allyson & Bryan at our initial meeting, Allyson is a producer at MTV (where I was a production intern) and we happened to know some of the same people, it is such a small world! But, the real reason why we could not contain ourselves leading up to this wedding is because we were going to be photographing the first wedding at the newly renovated Ocean House in Watch Hill, Rhode Island. After you absorb the stunning images below, hop back up here and click the link above to check this venue out. No shock, the Ocean House definitely exceeded our expectations, being there, you cannot help but feel like you are in another era, or one of Gatsby’s gala guests.
Despite shaky weather we were able to get some portrait time outside on the beach with the Ocean House’s great yellow umbrellas, the weather even held off so that Allyson & Bryan’s ceremony could be held outside as planned. The detailed restoration of this Victorian Era hotel is impeccable, and it was an absolute honor to photograph the first wedding there. Huge thanks to Nicole Taylor for being such a gem, traveling to Rhode Island, and 2nd shooting with us.
We were so lucky, even the vendors that we had the pleasure of working with on this wedding were some of our absolute CT favorites!
Wedding Venue: The Ocean House in Watch Hill, Rhode Island
Band: Cracked Ice. Fun fact: they have quite a track record, and even performed at Obama’s Inauguration!
Allyson’s Dress: Designed by Lea Ann Belter from The Plumed Serpent in Westport, CT
Allyson’s Shoes: Manolo Blahnik. Remember this style was made famous by Sex and the City when Carrie’s were stolen in “A Women’s Right to Shoes”? I digress.
Makeup: Stacey Palancia of Blush Couture
Floral Design: Dailey’s Flower Shop of Fairfield, CT
Getting ready.
Go get ‘em Nicole.
Paparazzi in full effect. Go girls!
The first look.
Bryan is a graphic designer, so he designed and printed the Ketubah, and all of the wedding stationary (programs, menus, place cards, etc.) with a seaside theme that was so stylish and very chic. It was perfect for the venue.
The ceremony. COME ON!!!
Could they be any cuter?
The reception.
Selfishly we wish that every wedding featured a Hora – it is just too fun…and of course Eric has to be right in on the action!
We wish you guys all of the best! We cannot thank you enough for allowing us to get to know your amazing families, and be a part of your very special day! xoxo

Sara & Chris are famous for keeping the most still anyone has ever been during the heavily requested, “that photo at grand central with everyone moving in it but the couple isn’t…” :) Huge thanks to Nicole Taylor & Joanne Vandal for helping us out at this amazingly intimate and perfect wedding in South Salem, New York. Sara & Chris’ day was filled with family traditions, personal touches, and heart-warming moments that we could not have been more fortunate to be a part of. Even more awesome is the fact that Chris is an avid (and super talented!) photographer and we’re always especially grateful when one of our fellow photo-geeks invites us to cover one of the most important days of their lives. Congrats to both of you and hope you loved your honeymoon in Turkey!
This year we’ve been starting all of our wedding blog posts with our favorite portraits of the day – so here they are!!
How cool and amazing is it that Sara wore the SAME gown her grandmother wore on her wedding day?!
Nicole Taylor knocking Chris’ groom portraits out of the park!!
Huge benefit to having more than 1 photographer is all the different angles and perspectives of the same moment! Here are photos from Joanne, Nicole, and I during their first look!
Such a beautiful and intimate ceremony…
We propose that EVERY wedding we cover have a hora regardless of your cultural background – most favorite wedding dance ever!!!
Help me welcome our newest assistant!
Thanks again guys – hope you enjoy!

To say that Eric and his team are amazing is an understatement. These photos are so cool. So awesome. So fantastic at capturing all the different emotions on everyone’s faces. Thank you guys so much for shooting our wedding and for capturing the beauty of that incredibly beautiful day. We can’t wait to see the rest of the photos, especially the ones from the photo booth! :-)
Meet Katie and Henry. Super cool, super chic. We had to have a heart to heart with Katie…you see, she saw this blog post about the timing on a wedding day and even though we do not want to make a habit of “hijacking” anyone’s wedding day timeline…we kind of had no choice in Katie & Henry’s case.
They were nervous, knowing that her ceremony and reception were at the same place with NO time in between. Katie and Henry opted for a first look at The Branford House in Groton, CT which left SO MUCH TIME for yummy pictures, a relaxing and intimate day, and plenty of time for the married couple to be together with their friends and family. We went from less than an hour for photos to two full hours. Pure Bliss ensued and we can’t thank them enough for being so open minded with their wedding day!
Let’s start things off with our most favoritest portraits from the whole day!
Can anyone guess where at the Branford House this wedding photo was taken?
I love, love, love these ones Amber took.
Katie & Henry’s bridal party was so cooperative during photos and we can’t thank them enough!!
First time I was able to head down to the water at the Branford House. It was ALL Katie’s idea…she just threw her shoes off, hiked up her dress, and started hopping across the rocks!!! I couldn’t believe my eyes – I’m not that coordinated without a wedding dress on!
Amber thinks guys are always way cooler with argyle socks
Yeaaaaah Henry!!!
Yeaaaaaah Katie!!!
Another awesome shot Amber set-up
The Branford House is seriously TOO much…huge green lawn, a beach, huge rocks, a lighthouse, & the most gorgeous architecture ever. You can’t lose!
Here’s a photo of Katie walking down the lawn to meet Henry for their ceremony. Love that they had a bag-piper leading the procession and the ceremony on the lawn of the Branford House was gorgeous!!!
You guys rock & thank you so much for inviting us to be a part of your special day!!

That ring shot is KILLER! What a great one for them to put in some glass coasters! How you continue to come up with new creative ideas is mind blowing to me. Fantastic job. I love seeing wedding photos that really capture moments and make me well up just a little. :) Congrats to Katie and Henry!
Sidebar – Does that post above really say it’s from Buford T. Justice? That’s phenomenal.
Seriously! There are so many gorgeous photos in here!!!!!!! Hooray for the Branford House roof!!!!!! Beautiful, beautiful stuff!
Katie Wolf
What can I say? These far exceeded our expectations, as I should have expected. Thank you both so much! I’ve looked at them 9billion times already and they just get better and better each time!
Amazing you two! That has got to be the coolest ring shot EVER! Love all the details! Amber, love that shot of the bride against her groom! Amazing job as always!
Marina and Paul are one of those couples that became fast friends. Their wedding is over, and Marina and I still email daily, discuss the recent shoots on our blog…make plans for Bloody Mary brunches. You know, we just clicked! And after 3 shoots (boudoir, engagement and wedding day) plus a year long of wedding planning it is kinda hard not to become friends. This is our favorite-est scenario, and I know that we will be photographing Marina and Paul as they start their family in the years to come. Did I mention we have the BEST job in the freaking world? Thank you to Nicole Taylor for shooting this one at the totally rad Society Room with us!
We always start with our absolute EPIC shot of the day….starting with this one which Eric has officially claimed his favorite photo of any bride of all time (so far anyways…)
Marina & Paul WORKING it on the streets of Hartford!
OBVIOUSLY we had to rock the ridiculously awesome front doors to the Society Room!
Coolest photo ever from our homegirl Nicole Taylor!!
How ridiculously gorgeous does Marina look??!! Dana Bartone Salon did such an amazing job with her hair & make-up.
***** WARNING *****
KILLER Bridal Party shot! Eric was a little kid in a candy store at this wedding and he busts out with this Rad-ness. Who can guess how many frames???
Taxidermy is pretty cool. Taxidermy on your wedding day is even cooler.
YUMMY details! I had to create a diversion while Eric put Marina’s gorgeous bouquet in the blender. :) Outstanding floral design by Pam Hargraves of Blooming Blossoms in Providence, Rhode Island.
While Eric and I covered the girls getting ready Nicole headed upstairs to cover the guys.
How adorable is this little one?!
Gotta love first looks baby!
Time to get married – love the look on all the guys’ faces when they saw Marina coming down the aisle.
The most adorable thing ever during the ceremony….Paul grabs a tissue for Marina, licks it, and helps clean her make-up while she was crying. Cutest thing ever!!
This was our first time shooting at the Society Room and we absolutely loved it! It’s so different than the usual wedding venue and Marina did such a great job with her details!
We’ve really been trying to kick it up a few notches with our ring shots….can anyone guess how we did this? No photoshop jedi tricks were used!
Umm…yeah…more Society Room action….can’t get enough!
DJs from Mike Connolly Sound Productions totally ROCKED this wedding inside out. Check out their amazing lighting throughout the Society Room – total eye candy everywhere!
Go Marina….it’s your birthday…..we’re gonna party like it’s your birthday…..
We love you guys to death and looking forward to hanging out soon – ENJOY!

Your photos are amazing. I was wondering where the ceremony took place?
Shannon Crooks Gharib
Absolutely stunning!! Every detail was perfection.
I’ve just looked at these for the 3rd time and have to say that between the before pics and the angles/lighting of the bridal party shots and then with the little detail photos you guys always absolutely NAIL – this is my favorite wedding blog thus far!! I love it! -AJ

Don’t know if Rhode Island is in your area of “operations” but I’m totally recommending your team to my friend getting married next May. Wonderful day that you all captured fabulously. Thanks!
Hot damn, this post gets me all excited like a fox in a hen house! Love the reception images and the girls on the stairs too!

These are very nice photos, great job.
Marina
AWWWWWWWW. Thanks Shannon! You were awesome. I’ll send the word to Dana with some kudos for you!
Shannon
I want to tell you that I am an employee at The Society Room and Marina was the loveliest and hands down the nicest bride I have ever met. As an aspiring photographer and recently married bride I really look up to and am awed by the work you do. Congrats all around!
Bozena
HOLY *&^% … absolutely AMAZZZZZZING!!! Raw TALENT …. Raw BEAUTY … love them all:-)
GORGEOUS!!! You guys totally blew it wayyyyyy out of the park! LOVE them all!!!
sally
All the pics are GORG! But the pic of him wipping away the tears is incredible! How adorable and what a great shot!

Well, what can I say? These are stupendous! (And that’s from the Mother of the Bride) I’m overwhelmed by the artistry and technique shown by this team. The venues were full of opportunity for lush shots with lots of detail…but not as easy to capture as one might think. The photographic “eye” you demonstrated was discerning and effective…clearly you’re brimming with talent.
Marina and Paul wanted photography with flair and you certainly provided this. I can’t say which is my favorite…I keep going back and forth trying to pick one…can’t be done. (I find myself thinking the one where’s shes lifting her skirt would make a great Smirnoff ad and I mean that in the nicest possible way). I’m looking forward to seeing the rest of the shoot. Once again, kudos to you for pulling this off!
Karen
unlike anything i’ve ever seen.. unreal!

What amazing pics! Marina, by far, one of the most beautiful brides! These pics totally captured Marina and Paul! I had a blast at the wedding, so happy I was apart of your special day!
Elizabeth & Dave are the epitome of pure radness and their wedding could not have been any more perfect if they tried. This was our first time shooting at Saltwater Farm Vineyard in Stonington, CT and we have to admit….it was love at first sight. The grounds at the vineyard were absolutely breathtaking, the staff was more than accommodating, and the constant eye candy had us begging for more! We are just going to stop talking and start posting the photos. They’ll do the wedding much better justice than any lengthy monologue could!
Here is Eric’s fave from the day taken in the vineyard:
And here is my favorite taken outside the Saltwater Farm venue:
Just look how ridiculous the venue at Saltwater Farms is on the INSIDE!
All the guys working it for the camera in the vineyard.
Beth Chapman from the White Dress by the Shore did such an amazing job styling Elizabeth and Yumiko’s flowers were breathtaking!
Elizabeth’s dad waiting to see her in her dress for the first time.
Dave wore his grandfather’s pocket watch that was passed down to him from his father.
Elizabeth & her dad waiting to enter the church to walk down the aisle – Eric’s favorite of mine from the whole day!
Seriously, Elizabeth & Dave were so stinkin’ cute together, just look at them greeting each other at the aisle…too much!
This bell ringer would give even Will Ferrell a run for his money.
More yummy details!
I SWEAR this was totally candid! Elizabeth & Dave never left each other’s side throughout the wedding (love that!) and here they are trying to get the attention of someone in the vineyard. Just look how gorgeous this place is!!!
Party time!
Love all the lighting set up by the Power Posse crew!
Wait…is that….can it be?? It is! It’s Jackie & Drew!! Can’t wait to see that baby!!
I believe this would be a “double worm” showdown.
Not sure if this is break-dancing or “I’m having so much fun, I’m just going to fall right here.”
I know that might look like some fancy off-camera flash but it’s actually flash from someone else’s camera!
Can’t thank you guys enough for everything – hope you love your photos!

Dave and Elizabeth: OMG, what a beautiful Wedding! Knowing you both, and seeing these pictures one could only know well that you put together a wedding that depicted all that you both are and want in life and made it your day and story to begin your life together. How special you both are. These pictures tell it all and may your future together be happy and bring you both continued success in all that you do. I am so very happy for you both.
Great site, great crowd, great photographers, beautiful pictures!

The Mother of the Bride couldn’t be more thrilled with Elizabeth and Dave’s Wedding Day photos! I am so grateful that you captured all of the special moments for us to remember. We are all beyond happy that we chose Raw Photo Design to be our photographers. The quality of your work is outstanding, but then again, you had a couple who could not be more in love, look more beautiful, and a venue that we all knew was the best place ever to celebrate the happiest day of Elizabeth and Dave’s lives! Thank you! Joan Glenney

Great photos! Elizabeth, you look absolutely beautiful! I still can’t believe you’re all grown up. Thanks again for allowing us to be part of your big day. We had a wonderful time.
Beth – you are absolutely stunning! Congratulations to you & Dave – you’re such a beautiful couple! And it’s about time!!! ;)

PS – Great job on having RAW do your wedding photos – they’re amazing!
We were so excited when our girl (and fellow photographer), Athena Blude, suggested that her good friend Brian contact us to photograph his Philadelphia wedding. Apparently Chrissy and Brian really trusted Athena, because our first time meeting them was at their engagement session in Manhattan!
Chrissy & Brian’s wedding at the Belle Voir Manor on the Delaware River in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania was super fun and we are so fortunate that we were able to be a part of it!
Here’s more of our favoritest yumminess from the whole day!
I love when the bridal party is totally NOT on board with Eric’s idea, you should have seen the reaction when he proposed getting in the tall grass for this shot…one of those times I wish I was shooting video. Brian & Chrissy were completely on board so that was all the support we needed. And this is why Eric needs to be trusted, the ridiculously rad bridal party shot!! Definitely one of Eric’s most favorite bridal party shots ever.
Thank goodness for night shots-a Raw Photo Design wedding staple.
One of Eric’s most favorite shot of mine taken that day.
We met Chrissy and her girls at a salon outside of Philly for Hair and Makeup, then off to her Dad’s house in Springfield, PA.
Yes…that would be a Derek Jeter signed baseball. Pretty awesome gift from Chrissy to Brian!
This is your ring. And this is your ring on………ICE! Not sure why the “this is your brain on drugs” commercial popped into my head for this one but oh well, we’ll go with it!
Eric and I headed over to the Crowne Plaza to shoot the Guy’s getting ready, they were very good listeners. When we arrived they were all sitting, hands folded in laps, wearing their pants and their white undershirts – very funny sight.
These twin flower girls were A-dor-able! Eric knows that he doesn’t have to take too many pictures of the little kids, because Nicole and I always shoot more than enough!
Chrissy’s Dad’s house where we shot the girls getting ready was full of antiques, heirlooms, and vintage-y goodness. I couldn’t resist including this old wedding portrait in the frame, while Eric was posing Chrissy in front of the window for her bridal portraits.
The ceremony was held at the same location as the reception, right on the Delaware River, and it was a stunning day for an outdoor ceremony.
We hope you enjoy your images guys, and thank you for the honor of letting us be a part of your wedding!

What a beautiful bride and groom and what great pictures. Love the black and white ones mixed in with the color ones. Best wishes.

Martha and Mike just get it. Their wedding day was one like we would have if we were getting married today, all those very important things were there…the day was filled to the brim with family, friends, happy tears, laughter, personality, and ridiculous fun. We get those weddings sometimes where the details are magical, the bride is stunning, and every place we look we see total eye candy…Martha & Mike’s wedding at the Black Rock Yacht Club in Bridegeport, CT was no exception. To see their wedding featured on Style Me Pretty, click {here}. As always, we have to start with a few of our absolute favorites from the whole day!
Martha & Mike were looking for that {EPIC} wedding image. Ask and you shall receive…it just usually requires a willing couple, a lot of flash, and an unassuming location. Eric loves a challenge and when a couple is as excited about the images as we are…..we make art. (PS – want to know how to bring that beautiful blue sky back in your photos? Sign up for our lighting workshop! *wink*wink*)
Cuteness!!!
WE HAVE to give a shout out to those vendors that make our job so completely fun and amazing, taking our images and abilities to the next level {without even knowing it}, see below:
Our getting ready shots began at Martha’s parents amazing home in Bridgeport, CT. Stacey, did an out of this world job on Martha and the girl’s makeup, her talent continues to blow us away.
Beth from The White Dress by the Shore did an amazing job with Martha’s dress, styling, and accessories, they were a perfect fit for the wedding as well as Martha’s personality & style. The White Dress by the Shore never disappoints!
So, I have 3 favorite bridesmaids designers for the past 2 years: Melissa Sweet (mostly because they have pockets) and J.Crew, and Jenny Yoo. Martha’s rockin’ bridesmaids wore Navy Jenny Yoo gowns (with pockets!!!) that were completely Rad (especially with the added touch of those peacock feathers in the heels).
This ring picture was {TOP SECRET}. It is not usually great practice to let the couple know you put their spanking new rings, freshly back from the cleaner, in raw oyster slime. So we shot this in seclusion, they never had to know, and now they also get to have an {EPIC} ring shot. Good times.
We can’t resist a cool father of the bride (especially one that owns the iPad and has Macs all over the house, cries during his toast, rocks the photobooth, and sings Mack the Knife karaoke style at the reception} click here to see the YouTube video captured by a guest).
Tried to mix the “most requested groomsmen shot” up a little!
At the tail end of the reception Martha & Mike had these ridiculously-awesome-confetti-gun-looking-things fired into the crowd. So cool!!
We love you guys to death and would shoot your wedding every weekend if we could – enjoy!!!

OMG!….OOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!! Sooo freakin’ amazing!! Thank you thank you thank you. I have no words for this totally rad buisness going on up above. Love it. love it. LOVE IT!
We don’t make a habit of preaching on this blog and try our best to keep our opinions on most matters quiet, but on this issue – since wedding season has officially started – something has to be said about the factor of TIME on a wedding day.
The amount of time that we have on a wedding day is THE ONLY FACTOR that will dramatically impact the images that we are able to provide. Not the rain, not the cold, not the light or lack of, not the spot on a bridesmaids dress, not the droopy flowers…I could go on and on, you get it.
BUT…if we have 10 minutes to shoot bridal portraits they cannot be comparable to the portraits we had 2 hours to capture, pretty simple, right?
Will they be good? Yes.
But, will they be great?
This is not a blatant promotion for the “First Look”, I understand that it is a personal decision, and we want your wedding to be yours. If it is important to you that your groom sees you for the first time coming down the aisle, do you know where this custom originated? catholicbrides.com
The Groom Not Seeing The Bride Before The Wedding – (Superstition)
“Many of our current wedding “customs” originate from century old superstitions that would avoid incurring bad luck. In ancient times, marriages were considered a business arrangement made between family members, rather than a celebration of love. Marriages cemented alliances between families and insured transfer of land and wealth between them.
Often the groom had not met or even seen his future wife before the ceremony. The bride was kept hidden to eliminate any disapproval of her from the groom. It was feared that once seeing her he may have refused to proceed with the ceremony. This of course would have bought bad luck, by putting the family’s financial arrangements in jeopardy.
Today this custom has lost its relevance. Arranged marriages are not very common in our modern North American society nor will the Catholic Church condone a marriage between people who have never met. A Catholic wedding ceremony is a sacrament that couples administer to each other, so it must be a ceremony of mutual consent. Many couples are abandoning this custom of hiding from one another, choosing instead to have private time together for prayer and reflection before the ceremony. They then as a couple greet their guests upon their arrival.”
***What it comes down to is this, how important are pictures to you on your wedding day?***
We like the “First Look” because it is an obvious way to maximize the time available on a wedding day, without sacrificing the moment of seeing each other for the first time. With that said, IT IS POSSIBLE to have a well planned wedding day timeline allowing for EPIC, ROCKSTAR pictures even without doing a “First Look”.
I know that our opinion on the timing topic can seem biased, so I asked our past brides (some that did the “First Look” and some that did not) about it, here’s what they said (I will continue to update as I receive testimonials, oh and don’t miss Audrey’s promo video – SHE ROCKS):
Christine: “I think the “First Looks” idea definitely has it’s pluses. The ‘moment’ may be easier to capture since both photogs can be in perfect places to get the reactions of both the bride and groom. It can also be more intimate since the eyes of the world aren’t on them. It can be a special moment in and of itself. I was more traditional and wanted the “First Look” to be walking down the aisle. I don’t know if you remember, but our Priest was not the nicest guy in the world and asked both you and Eric to stay in the back of the church!!!!! Kind of makes capturing that moment much more challenging. I think every bride needs to be told, and have driven home, the idea that however much time you think you need to get ready for your wedding, DOUBLE IT. It’s a good idea to plan the timeline out at least a couple of weeks before the wedding. I’m a teacher, and I always over plan my time…and it really, really pays off. People make fun of me b/c I am so scheduled, but ya know what?? It works!!! The day of my wedding, the last thing I wanted to do was rush…I cannot stand that feeling of being 2 steps behind!! I gave myself 2 hours to do hair, an hour to do make-up, and made sure there was time built-in to eat lunch, relax a bit with my girls, and ‘just in case’ time. It’s funny, because all we did all day was wait!! The flowers were late, the trolley was late, etc…but we didn’t have to rush through anything at my parents house or during the portrait stuff at Longshore. We also made sure there would be close to 2 hrs before Cocktail Hour started to get ALL of the pics done when we got there. Since most (usually!!) girls haven’t been through the wedding day timeline as a bride before, it’s a pretty overwhelming task to accomplish. It’s the whole ‘unknown’ factor that is SO hard to tweak once the day starts. Breaking the day down into pieces and considering travel time, getting ready time, bathroom time, etc, etc can give a good picture of how it could work, too.”
Jill: “I am so happy that we chose to do our first look photos. It was such an amazing experience to see my husband to be before all the madness of a wedding can separate you and stress you out. I loved seeing the reaction on his face when he saw me for the first time, it was such a great moment. It wasn’t rushed at all, we had plenty of time to appreciate each other as well as what we were about to do! I think it really gave me the time I needed with him in order to calm my nerves before our ceremony. I also had the peace of mind that once our ceremony was over, we would be able to go enjoy our guests and our reception!”
Shannon: “It was never an option for Anthony and I to NOT have a first look on our wedding. Since neither of us are superstitious we thought this first look moment would be an intimate and relaxing way to see each other before the craziness began. It turns out that our first look was the most precious, intimate and special part of our day because it was the only moment where we felt it was just the two of us. It started to feel like our wedding day the moment we saw each other. I don’t think we would have felt the same “spark” if this were to happen as I walked down the aisle as I was so nervous I don’t even really remember much of the ceremony. At least I have my moment with Anthony that I replay in my mind every single day. Apart from the memorable part of the first look, it was practical for us. Let’s be honest, we spent a lot of money on the wedding and we wanted to enjoy every last moment of it. We didn’t want to miss the cocktail hour or any part of our party. As it was, we were 45 minutes late getting to the Waterview because of hair and makeup and if we didn’t plan for the first look, we would have had no time to take pictures. Also, we got even more pictures from our wedding because we had the first look, cocktail hour and family portraits. I have convinced numerous couples that I am friends with who are getting married to do a first look photo shoot because of the reasons mentioned above and they have all agreed because it makes both the bride and groom breath easier! Just imagine if Big and Carrie from Sex and the City would have seen each other before the wedding ceremony…it would have actually taken place!! The first look is a must in my opinion.”
Kate: “If Dave and I agreed on one thing about the wedding – it was that after all was said and done and the wedding was over, the pictures were the one thing we would get to keep forever. We wanted to be sure we LOVED our photographer (which we did!), and that we had plenty of time for pictures. We have been to way too many weddings where the bride and groom spend the entire reception getting pulled away for pictures, and we did not want to be that bride and groom. We had a ton of time in between our ceremony and our reception, so we did not choose to do the First Look. The gap wasn’t ideal for our guests but it was our only option for a timeline, and we were siked because we had plenty of time to get our pictures done and get to the wedding in time to attend our entire Cocktail Hour! Obviously, not every wedding will play out that way. Even though time was not an issue for us in between, I wanted to be sure that the morning schedule was well planned and not rushed. When I met with Eric and Amber, they gave me the best advice – they suggested that when I was selecting my vendors for hair and make-up, to use PROFESSIONALS and to MAKE A SCHEDULE. Boy, were they right. Professionals will be on time, come prepared and get the job done! I hired Susan Houde from Naomi’s Studio and Salon for make-up and Paula Lopes Abrantes from Adam Broderick for hair. Susan did my make-up along with 3 other ladies in about 2 hours. Paula did the hair of myself, 7 bridesmaids, 2 mothers and 3 children in enough time to leave for church by 1:45 p.m.! I may have been a little over-organized with my hair and makeup schedules and the timing of breakfast and lunch, etc. but because it was all orchestrated in advance, I was so relaxed on the morning of my wedding I actually took a nap! By the time the photographers and videographers showed up I was well rested, well fed and ready to put on my gown and go get married! If my morning had run over, everything else would have backed up and we would have lost that time throughout the day. In short…hire good people and plan your day in advance! Good Luck!!”
Stefanie: “We originally planned to be ‘traditionalists’ when we booked Raw. Slowly, over time my both logical and romantic side started thinking. I had to really think about the day and how it would go. I am SO glad we chose to do the First Look. Here’s why….I was really nervous- it’s my wedding day. I was so glad to see my ‘rock’ before the ceremony to help me chill out! It was an amazing moment to see the look on each other’s faces and be able to share some private time and a little conversation that day- there is not much private time on your wedding day! It was an extremely intimate experience to share seeing each other for the first time- alone. Coming down the aisle with my veil on and all the onlookers was a completely different experience. One did not take away from the other. Walking down the aisle is a moment that is ingrained in my brain and will always be! It was so great to be able to get right to the party after the ceremony. After all we paid all this dough for it- we wanted to enjoy it too! It was really nice to use the cocktail hour as time to mingle and greet all of our guests. That way there was no time taken out of dinner to visit tables. We actually got to sit and enjoy our meals! And everyone said we wouldn’t have time to eat…ha! I would have never thought about doing a First Look so I credit Raw for that fabulous idea. Not only did it make sense logistically but it made the day very romantic in a way I never imagined. I LOVE LOVE LOVE our First Look pictures and seeing the expressions on our faces brings me right back to that moment. We took a traditional wedding and added a little twist and I am so glad we did.”
The takeaway? Weddings are unpredictable!
What makes us love our job is that no two weddings are alike, and we have learned to make the absolute most of every minute we are given. This discussion is really about managing expectations, giving couples the foresight to plan their wedding timeline the best they possibly can, and prevent anyone from being disappointed, or having regrets.

Brilliant. Awesome discussion and so great to hear from actual brides + grooms about their own experiences. Like you–I don’t want to “force” people to do a First Look but encourage them to see it as it’s own special moment that does not take away from the “walk down the aisle” moment. And if they’re not up for it, building in extra time after the ceremony is key. Great post, guys!
I think you covered it Amy. And we are not adverse to the shot list, my only other tip…hire a good photographer {wink}{wink}

So make time the priority for the photographers, strongly consider a first look, no shot lists and what else? Any other tips/pet peeves that could help brides/grooms get the best photos on their wedding day?
So true!! So glad you guys put this out there! A wedding day flies by way too fast, scheduling it out is the best way to make the most of every minute – and leave with no regrets.
Haha! Robert…I was actually having passing thoughts of that. Holla! We are photographer’s sometimes mistaken as magicians! ;o) And if they don’t meet first, then at least provide a gap of time in between so our creative juices can flow as they should!

Agreed! Chris and I would never have changed a thing. Meeting before the ceremoney ws by FAR the best thing we did. We were able to share that special moment together and have it captured. I recommend all my friends to do the same.
This is the most true and probably the best wedding advice on the net right now. Hoo-ra!

I appreciate the feedback from people who have done both. For us, I really think it’s makes the most sense to do the first look. Thank you for the tips and info!
Lori & Amphy’s wedding was pure fun, and we just knew that their wedding at the Waterview in Monroe, CT would be a blast! A huge thanks to Nicole Taylor for helping out with this wedding – you’re the best!! We’re not going to waste any time and get right to the awesomeness….here are a few of our favorites.
Stunning makeup and hair styling provided by the one and only Naomi Martinez and the crew from Naomi’s Salon, always an absolute pleasure to work with!
Both Lori & Amphy as well as their bridal party got ready at the Hilton in Shelton, CT.
We love us some first-look action – always such an amazing moment!
Lori & Amphy held their gorgeous ceremony at the Waterview as well.
And…..now introducing…….the most requested Raw Photo groomsmen shot……drum roll please…… :)
Yummy.
Hope you guys had an absolute blast on your honeymoon and we can’t thank you enough for letting us be part of your day!

Kristin & Tom have lived in two states since their engagement (neither of them being CT), so it was a little tricky for them to meet us before their wedding date. Kristin must really trust her parents, because she sent them to our studio in Danbury to see our work and albums and report back on her behalf. The good news is that the meeting went well and we had the opportunity to photograph and be a part of Kristin & Tom’s wedding (even sneaking in a 30-minute long E-shoot 2 days prior so we could meet them) at the Tappan Hill Mansion in Tarrytown.
This was our first time shooting at the Tappan Hill Mansion in Tarrytown, New York, and I really hope it is not our last. The food catered by Abigail Kirsch was unbelievable and the presentation was stunning.
We always like to start out with our favorite photo from the wedding and here is Eric’s from the day – Kristin working it on the back lawn of the Tappan Hill Mansion!
And here’s my favorite from the day!
After getting her make-up done at Primadona Salon, Kristin and her bridesmaids headed back to Kristin’s parents’ home in Yorktown Heights, NY while the guys got ready at the Sheraton in Tarrytown, NY.
The ceremony was held at St. Patricks Catholic Church in Yorktown Heights, NY.
After the ceremony wrapped up we all headed straight to the Tappan Hill Mansion in Tarrytown NY to get some awesome sunset shots overlooking the lake.
There are a couple prerequisites to an amazing reception song: 1) Lots of hands in the air
2) Everyone yelling the lyrics
3) A groomsman tearing his clothes off
I think this song made the cut! :)
Thanks again for everything guys, it was an honor to be part of your day!

Hi Kristin and Tom – these photos are great! We loved it all and were so happy to be a part of the festivities. You make a beautiful couple. Congratulations and hope to see you soon. Love, Aunt Julie
Yeah! These captures capture the joy we all felt in celebrating the two of you. Thank you for a wonderful reminder of what matters most–caring for one another.
I love the sunset pics, the color and light are just awesome! These are all really great.

Eric and Amber — Thank you SO much, we absolutely love the pictures!!! It is so hard to choose our favorite! We had very high expectations for you guys given all the fabulous pics we had checked out on the website, but you exceeded them :-) Thanks so much for giving us all of these beautiful memories that we can treasure forever! And most importantly…thank you, thank you for somehow managing to capture the frantic moment where our best man’s suspender popped off. I mean seriously, can a reception picture get any better than that?!? THANK YOU.

Wow – you just rocked photographing this wedding! I bet it helped to have a super handsome couple to photograph… who also had a great sense of wedding style! I hope you don’t mind, but I published this on my blog for our Wedding Wednesday feature for the week. Please check it out if you have a minute!
