Nail it in Camera | Raw Workshop Rehash
Who doesn’t want to nail it camera? As photographers we are trying to be as efficient and consistent as possible, obviously fixing missed images in post production can really kill a workflow. Photoshop should be used to enhance an already great image, not create one.
The workshop that we wanted to give was intended to focus on the basics of photography, and we had a very productive day of learning and shooting! Needless to say, our expectations were far exceeded, and everyone involved brought their incredible talent to the table – we are so seriously fortunate to work with the best in the business.
Thanks to our following partners that made the day so incredibly rad –
A HUGE thanks goes to our totally awesome host Jonathan of Pavilion Catering, without his gracious offer to host the workshop at the Pavilion at Crystal Lake in Middletown, CT, we would have been out in the cold for way too long!

Before we get into the full post, I have to introduce you to our insanely gorgeous brides! The plan was to use real people (not actual models) so that we could provide instruction on posing and connecting with the camera…but I don’t think it was a very effective lesson because these 3 ladies were so natural and comfortable with the camera, it took NO work on our part! And no, we are definitely not complaining (I don’t think anyone else is either).

Most of the teaching and shooting was with Jessica in the first half of the day.

BIGGEST thanks ever to all of our models for braving the 20 degree weather in wedding dresses!

So…this totally sums up exactly how Eric comes up with a lot of his crazy ideas… We’re all in the middle of rocking some reflector action while Jessica is totally working it and Eric blurts out…”Amber! Throw some snow at Jessica from behind!” Umm…okaaaay….anyways, everyone thought it was hilarious and he didn’t get exactly what he wanted but still looks pretty cool. Our girl Suzanna on the other hand got the perfect angle – can’t wait until she posts it!

Not sure what the heck Eric is doing here but he looks pretty funny so I decided to post it

Pygmalion representing!

After everyone was comfortable with their posing, exposure, and lighting, we broke up into small groups and everyone got to work with Laura & Erin individually. Here are Eric’s shots while he worked with Erin and his group. Erin totally killed it!

I got to work with Laura with my group, it was such a blast! Work it Laura!

Unfortunately the end of the day came way too fast and although most of us (especially Eric) would have loved a lot more time with Erin & Laura, we had to wrap things up with a short image review session. We had such a blast and everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves, we are so looking forward to our next workshop!
Those of you that don’t know Eric that well, he is an insanely awesome teacher. He is very patient, encouraging, and his obsession with photography is so contagious when he is talking about it! Funny story, when Erin was getting hair and makeup done we were instructing, and when she had a chance to pull me aside, she said that she has never heard Eric talk so much in the 10 years combined that she has known him! He is a pretty quiet guy usually, so I told her that she is obviously not talking to him about photography!
And when everything was over and we were finished cleaning up, Eric wanted to take a few quick shots with some different lighting to preview our next LIGHTING workshop! This one is going to be super-intimate with only 5 people total so definitely keep your eyes peeled on the blog for the announcement after the holidays!

Fantastic shots guys and looks like a great workshop
Thank you guys so much for a fantastic workshop – being the newbie, I learned a TON, and came away super psyched and more confident about my photography, and “nailing” it. It was an awesome day!
Sign me up for the lighting workshop!! I am sorry I missed this one…
i’ll come to the lighting workshop but only if there will be salsa.
stupendous images…those people got to learn from the pros!
Liam – we always have salsa. LOL.
Looked like is was awesome. I want to be apart of the lighting workshop, what can I do to get on the list before it the news gets blasted to everyone?
Great workshop! It was very helpful and gave me a different perspective in capturing some really dynamic images of the models/brides using intense natural light. Looking forward to the next workshop. Thanks Amber and Eric and to the beautiful models.
Amber and Eric. How wonderful! I’m “totally” impressed. I’d love to be part of your workshops. I could definitely use help…your knowledge and pizzazzzzzzzz!!!! Love yah!
